Richard Fields, Jr., died on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at the age of 74 in Tuscaloosa at the VA Hospital. The son of the late Richard Fields, Sr., and Ethel Tucker Fields, he was born on May 30, 1947, in Greensboro. He attended the Hale County Training School, and after graduation enlisted in the United States Army briefly. When entering back into civilian life, he held various jobs and received certification from Shelton State Technical College. He enjoyed driving trucks all along the North American continent, including Canada. Richard would later retire from the VA Hospital.
Baptized at an early age, Richard joined the Saint Matthew AME Church in Greensboro in his youth. After befriending her in 1974, he wed Sarah Teacher on October 23, 1981. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Margorie Paige and Addie (George) Smith.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah Fields; daughter, Shakala Thomas; two grandchildren; two nieces; four nephews; one brother-in-law; and a host of other relatives and friends. Initial services for friends and family were hosted by Washington and Paige Funeral Home in Greensboro on Thursday, February 17. Burial took place the following day, at the National Cemetery in Montevallo, Alabama.
