Shelton State Community College’s Visual Arts Department will present its Spring 2022 Student Art Exhibition through April 28 in the Martin Campus Cadence Bank Art Gallery. A reception honoring the artists will be held on Thursday, April 28 from 3:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. with a special award presentation at 4:30 p.m. Both the exhibition and the reception are free and open to the public.
Judged this year by visiting artist, Sandra Vega, the spring art show culminates with the selection of purchase awards. Ms. Vega, a graduate assistant from The University of Alabama, will select one $100 purchase award for the College collection and choose two additional $50 awards.
Part of Shelton State’s designation as the Community College of the Fine Arts for the state of Alabama, the visual arts department focuses on instruction in art techniques and processes engaging students in creative thinking, self-exploration, and critical evaluation. Courses are designed to provide students with a strong foundation in studio arts and art history. The art program offers experience for students pursuing transfer to a four-year college program, art careers, and/or personal enrichment.
The Cadence Bank Art Gallery, located on the Martin Campus, showcases a changing series of exhibitions of local, regional, and national artists. The Gallery is open during the College’s regular business hours.
