Perry County has accepted a bid of almost $700,000.00 to complete work on the industrial access road project connecting TekPak to Alabama Highway 5. Commissioners voted to move forward on the project at their most recent meeting, Tuesday night, Sept. 13.
At that meeting, County Engineer Deandre Kimbrough said there had been three bidders on the project. The lowest bid came from Wiregrass Construction, for $695,932.55. Kimbrough said he had informed both Commission Chairman Albert Turner and the Alabama Dept. of Transportation of his recommendation that the county accept the bid. ALDOT will be contributing funds to the project.
Commissioner Brett Harrison made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Tony Long, to accept Wiregrass’ bid.
“Is there any other reason why the lowest bid was accepted?” said Commissioner Ben Eaton. “Not so much as them being more capable, but just cheap?”
“They’re the lowest responsible bidder,” said Kimbrough, who added that there were three total bids on the project, and all came from contractors with whom the county had worked before.
Commissioners also voted to notify the public of the expected start date of the construction, the route it will take, and the routing that will divert traffic from the construction area while the project is being completed.
