Viola Jeffries died Sept. 27 at the age of 84. She was born Nov. 5, 1937 to the late Willie and Corrine Jeffries. She confessed hope in Christ at an early age and joined Greenleaf Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully with the mission and matron’s departments as well as the usher’s board until her health declined.
She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Dora Jeffries (her twin) and Sarah Patton; brothers, Ruben, William, Willie, and James Jeffries; daughter-in-law, Mary N. Jeffries; and grandson, Delonte Nelson.
Survivors include a son, Marlon Jefries; six daughters, Gayla Jeffries, Claudette Jeffries, Doris Jeffries, Dytricia Jeffries, Deborah (Tony) Reaves, Gwendolyn and Kimberly Jeffries; four grandchildren, LeDarius and LeAnder Jeffries, Calvin (Courtney) Nelson and Kelvin Nelson; one sister, Katie Jeffries; one brother, Ira (Irma) Jeffries; three sisters-in-law, Iola Jeffries, Emily Jeffries, and Avery Jeffries; extended grandchildren, Michelle Jeffries, Candace (Denardo) Reaves-Smith, Destinee Jeffries, Bianca Harris, Tyris, Tina, Tamiah, and Brandon Nelson, Keneisha Holifield, Mercedes Bell-Dunton, Paiton Jeffries, Brayden Williams, Keris and Layla Jeffries, Tayla Watkins, Emeri and Emeli Smith; two devoted nephews she raised as her own, Cedrick Jeffries and Kerry (Kimeth) Jeffries; a devoted niece, Monika Jeffries; a special caregiver, Helen Small; and a host of loving family and friends.
Funeral services were held at Greenleaf Missionary Baptist Church in Greensboro with the Rev. Carlier Agnew officiating and Washington and Paige Mortuary directing.
