In celebration of Read Across America, Francis Marion School is hosting a Literacy Spirit Week. Starting on Monday, February 27, Francis Marion students and faculty have been adhering to a new dress code for each day, following a theme.
For Monday, the theme was “Remembering Marion’s History” and the dress code was a black out. Students and faculty were encouraged to wear all black ensembles, with the exception of jeans, tights, and leggings. On Tuesday the theme was “Our Future HBCU Graudates”, where everyone could wear shirts representing their favorite HBCUs. Wednesday’s theme was “Reading Takes You Places” where participants wore their fanciest outfits.
For this Thursday, March 2, the theme will be “Reading Gives You Superpowers”, where students and faculty can wear their favorite superhero-themed shirt.
For Friday, March 3, the theme will be “Read My Shirt Day”, where participants can create a schoolappropriate shirt that others can read. For this day, students may wear jeans if they wish.
Francis Marion School is also looking for parents and guardians to volunteer as readers during the rest of the week for Read Across America. Those interested may contact Mrs. K. Thigpen or their student’s teacher with any interest in reading to students. Volunteers may also call, 205- 928-3668, to volunteer for the remainder of the week.
