Perry County Historical and Preservation Society would like to thank all who worked, donated, participated, and helped to make the Low Country Boil a success this year! Pictured serving up food at this popular annual event are Chris Cho, Amber Parson, Mary Sophia Reich, Heather Thurber, Breanna Goodjoines, and Melissa Thurber Bolding.
The Perry County Historical and Preservation Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving, promoting, and honoring the rich history of Perry County. PCH&PS maintains the historic Marion Female Seminary Building with a fascinating museum of local history contained within. To make an appointment to tour the museum, call 334-345-0392. Another project of PCH&PS is the annual Tour of Homes which is held the first Sunday in December each year. This tour kicks off the Christmas season with festively decorated homes, historic buildings, and interesting places for tour goers to see. People come back for this tour year after year because every year the places open for tour are different. Another way that PCH&PS fosters interest in local history is being added. It is the Eleanor Drake Scholarship awarded each year to a graduating senior from each of the Perry County High Schools. Furthermore PCH&PS is making passing motorists aware of our history through signage. Most likely you have seen the MARION sign on Highway 5 North. In 30 days there will be a matching sign installed on Highway 5 South. These signs direct folks to our historic town! All PCH&PS projects are made possible by generous donations from individuals like you and through grants from RC&D and the Alabama Department of Tourism.
