The Running Rams track and field team, composed of over 40 athletes from 7th through 12th grade, traveled to Helena High School on March 22, 2023, to kick off their 2023 season. For many of the athletes, this was their first ever racing experience. Veteran and first-time racers alike were excited, nervous, and ready to see how they compared to other athletes after months of training. The Running Ram athletes performed just as Coach Bolding would have hoped! Of course, there’s room for improvement for everyone to ensure the Rams have a chance at the state title in May, but the athletes showed they’re not to be taken lightly! The boys placed 5th overall. Jarius Smith placed 3rd in the Triple Jump and set a new school record of 6’2” in the High Jump for a 2nd place finish. The girls placed first! Le’naya Essex placed 3rd on 400m and 2nd on Triple Jump. Asia Clemons placed 2nd on 300H and 3rd on Long Jump. Her jump of 5’3” set a new school record. Yasmine Murphy placed 3rd on 300H. Tracianna Moore placed 3rd on Triple Jump. La’Chelsea Moore placed 1st on Shot Put, 2nd on Discus, and 2nd on Javelin Her javelin throw of 90’ set a new school record. Tricia Suttle placed 3rd on Shot Put and 3rd on Javelin. Jamecia Hurt placed 2nd on High Jump. Her clearance of 4’10” set a new school record.
The Running Rams will be heading to Wetumpka on April 8th! Be on the lookout for updates on this performance.
