Marion celebrated the Juneteenth holiday on the town square surrounding the Perry County Courthouse for the second annual barbecue. Also dubbed, Citizens’ Appreciation Day, the celebration caps off a weekend of Juneteenth festivities, including a Juneteenth celebration in Uniontown on Saturday, June 17.
Promoted by County Commission Chairman Albert Turner, Jr., free food was provided by The Commissioner’s Pit of Camden, which included barbecue and fried fish. Sponsors included Citizens Trust Bank, JT Trucking, Lamont Howard Trucking, Arrowhead Landfill, and the Perry County Civic League. Jump houses, games, and music were all provided to citizens from 11:30 AM to 2 PM, which saw a great turnout.
