Mr. Cletus Anthony Canter “Tony”, age 70 of Northport passed away July 15, 2023. Mr. Canter was born February 13, 1953 in Kentucky to the late Cletus and Ruby Lee Canter.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah Canter; daughters, Christy Holcombe (Michiel), Melissa Averette (Thomas), Carrie Lee Canter; son, Cason Jordan; sisters, Deborah Rudhart (David), Beverly Pate (Tommy), Wilma Spicer, Carrie Carter and Gay Nell Boyd; grandchildren, Keith Holcombe, Grayson Averette, Brantlee Averette, Will Averette, Kayleigh Jordan and McKenzie Jordan.
Mr. Canter is predeceased by his parents; his brother, Eugene Canter and sister Louise Wiggins.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service was held Wednesday, July 19, at 1:00 p.m. at the chapel of Sunset Funeral Home, 3802 Watermelon Road, Northport, Al 35473. The family received friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11:00 AM until service time. Dr. Donald Payne and Bro. Ray Grantham officiated.
Mr. Canter loved coon hunting but his greatest love was his grandchildren. He was an over the road truck driver for many years before he became a logger and later taught diesel mechanics at Holt High School. He retired as maintenance supervisor at Dairy Fresh after several years. Mr. Canter was a long time member of the Moundville Masonic Lodge #123
