Breakthrough Charter School was recently awarded the Sportsmanship Award from the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) after the inauguration of their athletic program last year.
The award is given to schools whose students have modeled good sportsmanship on and off the court, in their capacities as both athletes and students. It also recognizes the efforts of staff, coaches, and administrators for setting a positive example for students.
Breakthrough wrote in a social media posting announcing the award, “We teach our student-athletes to be students first and to operate with respect, integrity, and high character. Our athletics program aims to build better students, better athletes, and better people.”
On hand to receive the award were: Xavian Evans, coach; Anita Billingsley, cheerleading coach; and Darren Ramalho, headmaster and superintendent.
