A prominent Hale County businessman has been arrested on three counts of receiving stolen property, first degree, and one count of receiving stolen property, second degree. According to court records, Fields, age 49, of Sawyerville, was arrested Dec. 22, 2023 on the charges. Records indicate that, as of Jan. 2, Fields is out of jail on bond, which was set at $190,000.00.
The criminal complaint filed in the case against Fields alleges that on Nov. 14 of 2023, he did “intentionally receive, retain, or dispose of stolen property… knowing that it was stolen or having reasonable grounds to believe it had been stolen and not having the intent to restore it to its owner.” According to the complaint, the three firstdegree charges relate to three “Mini Excavator, Skid Steer, John Deere Tractor(s),” each valued at $213,000.00 apiece. The complaint alleges that the tractors were the property of “Randy Sansom Construction, Robert Ragsdale, United Rentals.” The one second-degree charge against Fields pertains to a Bush Hog brush cutter valued at $2,000.00. Fields’ case is set for the plea docket in Hale County District Court on Feb. 6.
On the same day, Terry Donate Hunt, 35, of Montgomery, was also arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree receiving stolen property in Hale County District Court. It is unclear from court filings whether Hunt’s charges are related to Fields’ case, but both were filed the same day and related to allegedly stolen heavy equipment.
Hunt was arrested in Montgomery and booked into Hale County Jail on Dec. 22. As of Jan. 2, court records indicate he had also been released on bond, which was set at $120,000.00 for the charges.
The criminal complaint against Hunt, filed in Hale County District Criminal Court, pertains to two allegedly stolen “Case Tractor( s) and Big Tex Trailer(s),” which the complaint values at $60,000.00 apiece. The complaint indicates the tractors were the property of Kevin Zanders. Hunt’s case is also set for the plea docket on Feb. 6.
