At Hale County Hospital, it is our mission to pursue and promote healing, improved health, and improved quality of life of the residents of Hale County and surrounding communities. Our focus is on relationship and community- centered healthcare complemented by programming, activities, and community partnerships that support improved health and quality of life of our neighbors. As a community health center with deep local roots, we believe strongly in investing in and developing partnerships with our local community. We pursue community outreach and education through health fairs, the involvement of our employees in many local religious, civic, and other groups in our community. We are also in the planning stages of future community-based programs that will build upon this work to create more spaces where people can become healthier together. We are continuously striving to change the way healthcare is delivered to meet the real needs of our patients.
2024 is here as well as the month of January. January happens to be National Blood Donor Month. January was chosen for National Blood Donor Month as the winter months are often a time of reduced donations and an increased risk of blood shortages due to holiday celebrations, inclement weather, and cold/flu season. Donating blood is critical because through blood donation is the only way units of blood can be provided to trauma/burn victims, people living with chronic conditions, cancer patients, people in need of blood transfusions, and other individuals who are in need of extra blood. A single blood donation can save up to three lives.
There are numerous blood drives happening in Tuscaloosa, Demopolis, Livingston, and other nearby cities throughout January. To find more information on a specific blood drive, go to redcrossblood.org. If you make an appointment for a blood drive on their website and donate blood during the month of January, you can even be entered to win a trip to Las Vegas for Super Bowl LVIII. You can also talk to one of our providers at Hale County Hospital Clinic or Moundville Medical Associates, as well as visit the American Red Cross’s website if you would like more information on donating blood.
