Robert C. Hatch School in Uniontown is one of 25 organizations in the state receiving a grant for after school programs, it was announced last week. The Alabama Expanded Learning Alliance (AELA) recently partnered with the Alabama Department of Early Childhood Education (ADECE) to announce recipients of the Out-of-Time Funding program grants. AELA will be working with ADECE to implement programming, follow outcomes and provide professional development to grantees.
Recipients of the up to $25,000 grants were awarded for their ability to implement or enhance existing afterschool or out-ofschool time (OST) programs that provide student learning and academic enrichment activities.
“I’m thrilled that Alabama families will have access to afterschool programs that provide hands-on STEM learning for students to explore learn and grow,” said AELA Director Tracye Strichik, Ph.D. “All of the grantees are committed to providing our students high-quality, afterschool programming that enhances the learning gains achieved during the traditional school day.”
Later today, recipients will participation in a virtual orientation with the ADECE and AELA to discuss Alabama’s Afterschool Quality Standards. As well as challenges and needs of the grantees.

The Alabama Expanded Learning Alliance
The Alabama Expanded Learning Alliance (AELA) was established with the support of the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation and is one of the 50 national afterschool networks dedicated to informing policy, developing partnerships, and shaping practices to sustain and increase quality of afterschool programs.
AELA operates five regional hubs throughout the state of Alabama which provide virtual and in-person meetings, professional development, sharing of resources and technical assistance.
