The Daughters of the American Colonists recently visited Marion to unveil a new historic marker denoting the Lea House located on Green Street. The sign, furnished by the society, describes the marriage of Sam Houston and Margaret Lea in Marion which marked a period of significance in the life of the future leader of Texas.
Society members draped a velvet curtain over the marker, taking time to acknowledge the contributions of society members to the placement of the marker. Descendants of the Houston and Lea families were present for the sign unveiling which took place in the front yard of Marion resident Rick Griffin, attorney at law.
Information on the union and the Lea family was available for attendees, with over 30 members in attendance. After the marker was dedicated and unveiled, the Daughters of the American Colonists and other attendants walked to the Marion Female Seminary for a reception of light refreshments and punch.
