A single-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31, has claimed the life of a Birmingham man. James W. Evans, 54, was critically injured when the 2023 Ford F-150 pickup he was driving left the roadway, traveled across a private drive and became airborne before landing. Evans was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash. Evans was transported to Whitfield Regional Hospital in Demopolis, where he succumbed to injuries sustained and was pronounced deceased. George E. Fulford, 46, of Trussville, who was a passenger in the Ford, was injured and was also transported to Whitfield Regional Hospital.
The crash occurred on U.S. 80 near the 48 mile marker, approximately six miles west of Uniontown, in Marengo County. Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
