Kara Stallman appeared before the City Council Monday night to discuss the city closing its demolition project, funded through the Community Development Block Grant program.
She noted that there had been some changes in the demolition grant but said that for the most part everything is in order. She also noted that ADECA came through and did a full audit and found that everything was in compliance.
All that is needed to move onto future projects, she said, is for the Council to sign off on some final invoices. Stallman stated that she looked forward to working with the city in the future and that “it’s been a wonderful opportunity.”
She continued by saying “it’s time to move on and the need and focus is on the streets.” Stallman said she is hoping the next grant Uniontown can secure will be able to help do needed maintenance on the city’s streets and roads.
Though perhaps not as long-ranging as initially hoped, it’s clear the CDBG grant has been a crucial step for Uniontown’s development. The demolition of some of the decrepit and unused structures cluttering the city has given Uniontown a much needed facelift and cleared the way for new businesses to take root.
