William Lacey Deavours, 85 of Marion, AL went to his eternal home on March 29, 2023. He was born on January 10, 1938 in Carbon Hill, AL to William Aubrey Deavours and Evelyn Lacey Deavours. He was a 4-year veteran of the United States Marine Corps and worked for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Carolyn Sears. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ellen Jones Deavours; his sons: Stacy Allen Deavours, and Richard Aubrey Deavours (Tracy); and his brother Stacy Lee Deavours (Judy). He is also survived by a host of nieces and great-nieces and greatnephews.
Visitation was held on Saturday, April 1, 2023 from 1:00 – 2:00 pm at Mt. Pleasant Freewill Baptist Church in Marion. Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm, also at the church, with the Rev. Austin Smith officiating and Kirk Funeral Homes, Marion Chapel directing. Graveside services followed at the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: Mike Hightower, Paul Hightower, Phillip Hightower, Coley Wade Taylor, Chris Harrison, and Thomas Irby Pope IV. Honorary pallbearers were: Dickey Huey, Randy Hughey, Allen Rayfield, Frank Mitchell, and a host of nieces and great-nieces and greatnephews.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be made to Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, 1404 West Catherine Drive, Marion, AL 36756.
