Hale County Hospital emphasizes the importance of providing quality primary care by ensuring that our two clinics, Hale County Hospital Clinic in Greensboro and Moundville Medical Associates in Moundville, are providing the best preventative measures to keep our community members healthy. September marks Prostate Cancer awareness month.
Discussing prostate cancer and prevention measures are necessary as prostate cancer is often called a silent killer. It is the second most common cancer in men worldwide, behind lung cancer. In 2023 alone, more than 288,000 men will be diagnosed with the disease and and there will be close to 35,000 deaths. Prostate cancer often does not have early symptoms, but early detection is key to saving lives. Advanced prostate cancer can cause men to urinate more often, have a weaker flow of urine than normal, and struggling to start urination. The best way to detect prostate cancer early is to get routine screenings from your medical provider.
Men without any risk factors between the ages of 45-69 should strongly consider starting to get these cancer screenings. For men with a higher risk of getting prostate cancer, which includes African-American men or men with a family history of cancer, think about talking to your doctor as early as 40-54 years of age. Smoking and not exercising consistently can also increase your risks of having prostate cancer. Talk to your healthcare provider about the importance of prostate cancer screenings, especially if you’re at an age or have risk factors that warrant it.
Our providers at both clinic locations want you to stay healthy and active. Prioritize your health today and schedule an appointment with our primary care providers to discuss preventative measures.
