Carolyn Walthall Smith died on November 12, 2023 in Montgomery where she currently resided. A native of Newbern, she was born December 3, 1931 and preceded in death by her parents, Thomas A. Walthall, III and Laurice B. Walthall and her husband, George R. Smith, Jr, and her brothers, Thomas A. Walthall, IV and William B. Walthall.
Carolyn attended Hale County schools, Alabama College, Montevallo and graduated from Alabama Polytechnic Institute, Auburn where she was a member of Kappa Delta sorority.
She was a member of Newbern Baptist Church and Demopolis First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, L. Claire Smith of Prattville, Lynn S. Parker of Charlotte, NC, her husband, David M. Parker and a granddaughter, Abigail L. Parker of Austin, TX; a sister, Frances W. Roberts of Demopolis, a sister-in-law, Twyla E. Walthall of Wetumpka, and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Newbern Cemetery Endowment Fund, c/o Judy Woods, 114 Live Oaks Lane, Newbern, AL 36765, Newbern Baptist Church, c/o Barbara Broussard, 7278 County Road 12, Newbern, AL 36765 or the charity of your choice. A family graveside service will be held at the Newbern Cemetery on Saturday, November 18, 2023. The family appreciates the services of Oak Grove Inn and Jennings Professional Services in caring for Carolyn for the last several years.
