Robert “Red” Barton passed away October 23, 2024 at the age of 85. He was born April 7, 1939 to the late Robert and Clytee Barton.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Jean Barton (Harry) House.
Red’s journey began in the small town of Uniontown where he graduated from Uniontown High School. With a spirit thirsting for adventure and service, he enlisted in the Air Force, proudly serving during the Vietnam War, a time that defined his resolve and nurtured his deep love for his country.
In the warmth of his early years, Robert found himself at the helm of a grain elevator in Browns, an endeavor that set the stage for a lifetime devoted to the land. A jack of all trades, his diverse career evolved into a tapestry woven with the threads of cattle farming, catfish farming, and a passion for raising quarter horses and border collies. Known fondly in his community for his quick wit, he carried a loving compassionate soul that shone brightly when shared with his family and friends. His laughter echoed through the fields and along the banks of the river, where his beloved boat often floated in a gentle embrace with the water.
Robert worked tirelessly, embodying a work ethic that was as steadfast as the crops he tended. Yet beyond laboring in the fields, he found joy in the simpler pleasures of life, such as casting a line into the quiet waters, where time seemed to melt away. He relished the company of those he loved, inspiring memories that twinkled like stars in the night sky. He was not just a farmer or a veteran—he transformed into a guiding light for the “heathen kids and yard children” who filled his life with laughter and unyielding energy.
In his twilight days, his family gifted him with a cherished trip to his farm, allowing him to check on his cattle one last time. It was a poignant reminder of his unwavering dedication to the land that had shaped him and the legacy he would leave behind.
He is survived by his wife of 64 1/2 years, Mary Barton; children, Sandra (Jim) Boxmeyer, Robert (Lourdes) Barton, Richard (Jessica) Barton, John Barton, Mike (Lori) Christmas and Jerome Williams; grandchildren, Chris and Lauren Barton, Allison (Jay) Ellis, Blake Barton, Michael Barton, Ashley (Jeremy) Riner, Alex Boxmeyer, Lee (Julia) Barton, Adam Barton, Austin Barton, Kyle Barton, Sarah (Blake) Pritchett and Julia Barton; great-grandchildren, Luke and Sadie Barton, Evelyn Riner, Conner Barton and Cayde Ellis; nieces and nephews, Elizabeth (Rick) Granzow and David House.
A service to celebrate his life will be at Rosemont Cemetery in Uniontown on Sunday, November 3, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. with Wade Mc- Crory officiating and the family directing.
Honorary pallbearers will be Willie Williams, Gary Wayne Junkin, Jeff Tucker, Dr. Chu and his staff, Ray Toldeo Family and Ray House.
