There will be a ribbon
cutting ceremony for the
Parolees Reentry Center in
Uniontown on Thursday,
April 21. At 3:00 p.m.,
Perry County Commissioner and Chairman Albert
Turner, Jr., along with the
State of Alabama Department of Pardons and Parole
will mark the opening of the
facility that was formerly a
privately-owned and operated correctional facility located in Perry County. The
Bureau of Pardons and Parole will operate the facility
for parolees found in violation of their parole agreements. However, there are
renovations needed for the
State to meet its goal of
housing as many 400 parole
violators, to curb rising incarceration rates. Job training programs through
Ingram State Technical College, as well as drug and
mental health treatment will
be available to parole violators. The stated purchased
the facility this year for $15
million, with Bureau Director, Cam Ward, indicating
that the inaugural group for
the facility will be quite
small. The event will host
Gov. Kay Ivey, Representative Terri Sewell, Prison
Commissioner John Hamm,
and other state and local officials.
